Trust figures with no source
“Over 12,000 reviews”, “94% in 48 h”: totals that vary from one page to another.
What you see
Figures displayed large: “4.8 from over 12,000 reviews”, “15,000 happy customers”, “96% satisfied”. Sometimes one page announces a total and the next page another. Example observed on one shop: “over 12,000 reviews” on a sales article, “6,860 reviews” on the product page, 1,941 on its Loox page.
How to check
- Compare the figures between the article, the product page and the review platform. Note the dates.
- See whether the figure refers to reviews, customers or sales: they are not the same thing.
- Look for the third-party platform (Trustpilot, Google) and compare the total it shows.
Takeaway
A gap can have an explanation (period, grouped products). It should then be explained on the page. With no explanation, it is an observation to note, not proof.
