Withdrawing: 14 days after receipt

The right of withdrawal for an online purchase: deadline, procedure, refund and return costs.

To verify before publication. Text read through a copy of the service-public.fr sheet F10485, not on the official site: re-check the deadlines, return costs and the 12-month extension on service-public.fr, and the situation of a seller outside the European Union.

The principle

For an online or telephone purchase from a professional, you have 14 days to withdraw, without having to give a reason. The seller may offer a longer period. This page describes the French rules.

When the period starts

For goods, the period runs from receipt. If several goods are delivered separately, it runs from delivery of the last one. You can also withdraw before you have received the order.

How to do it

Send the seller the withdrawal form or any written statement, before the end of the period. The seller cannot impose a specific method such as registered mail. Keep proof of sending (dated e-mail, capture of the request).

Return and refund

  • You send the goods back within 14 days of announcing your decision. Return costs are in principle at your expense.
  • The seller refunds you within 14 days of learning of your decision, initial delivery costs included. It may wait until it has received the goods, or proof that they were sent. The refund is in principle made to the payment method used.
  • If the seller did not inform you of this right, the period may be extended up to 12 months.

What is excluded

Customised goods, perishable products, opened hygiene products, unsealed recordings or software, among others.

Takeaway

Write, date, keep a record. If the seller does not answer, follow up in writing, then report it on SignalConso.
